Partial Dentures in Cambridge & Kitchener-Waterloo

If you are missing a few teeth in your mouth, as the result of an accident, illness, or poor dental hygiene, then a set of partial dentures can help you get back to life as normal.

At McCabe, we offer partial dentures in a number of different styles and materials, including hook-on and implant dentures. With newer designs, materials, and techniques available, our partial denture options are more comfortable and less noticeable than ever before.

Ask your denturist about the new designs and learn more about your choices.

Types of Partial Dentures

There are two main types of partial dentures available: tooth-supported and tooth and tissue-supported. Tooth-supported dentures use metal clasps to attach to existing teeth and are often referred to as ‘hook-ons’. Tooth and tissue-supported dentures are also known as implant-supported dentures, and attach directly into the bone and soft tissue of the jaw.

There are significant differences between these two types of dentures. In general, we recommend implant-supported for a few missing teeth, as they tend to offer a better fit and better overall functionality. With implants, you will have an easier time eating and an improved ability to maintain bone in your mouth.

Tooth-supported dentures offer benefits as well. These hook-on dentures tend to be more affordable and easier to remove. They are designed to be removable and should be removed nightly to contribute to a healthy oral environment. They offer better stability than a complete denture and newer designs are less visible than older styles.

When evaluating what type of denture will be best for you, our denturists will assess a variety of factors, including the number of teeth remaining, the position of the teeth, and the stability of the teeth. We will let you know what type of denture we suggest for your situation.

Materials for Partial Denture

Our partial dentures are available in a range of different materials, including acrylics, a metal/acrylic combination, or flexible thermoplastics.

  • Acrylic partials are usually used as a transitional or temporary replacement of missing teeth, depending on your personal circumstances.
  • A metal/acrylic partial, commonly called a cast partial, is typically a more rigid and permanent style of denture. The metal is either a highly-compatible chrome cobalt alloy or titanium — both are ultra thin, light, and very strong.
  • A partial made from flexible thermoplastics will offer a more flexible and aesthetically-pleasing option.

We also provide partial dentures with tooth-coloured clasps, instead of metal, so the device is more discrete.
