What To Do If You Need An Emergency Denture Repair

When your denture breaks, it can cause sudden panic and stress. It’s important to know that most dentures can be repaired and that McCabe Denture & Implant Solutions offers same-day repairs. Keep reading for expert advice on what to do if you need emergency denture repair.

1. Don’t Panic

First and foremost, stay calm. We understand how important your denture is to you and that you may be in pain or feeling self-conscious. Take a deep breath, and proceed to step 2.

2. Call The Experts

Call our office immediately and we will do our best to get you scheduled in on the same day. Our goal is to help you get back to your regular self right away! In the meantime, stick to soft foods to prevent further damage or pain.

3. Don’t DIY

Although it may be tempting, it’s in your best interest to avoid self-repairs or at-home repair kits. Repairing a denture is a skill and, if done incorrectly, it will be more costly in the long run. If more damage is done, sometimes a new denture is required. It’s also important to understand why the denture broke in the first place. If the cause of the damage isn’t addressed by a professional denturist, it is likely that the denture will break again.

4. Consider Annual Maintenance

Like most things, dentures require maintenance. It’s crucial to have your denture assessed annually, as most repairs can be prevented through denture maintenance. Most denture repairs are caused by accidents — dropping or improper handling. Other causes of damage can be caused by a poor fitting device or an incorrect bite. If your denture is in pieces, it will require repair before the denture can be properly assessed to uncover the cause of the damage.

What To Expect

Depending on the type of denture you have, sometimes it can simply be dropped off at our office and you will not need to see the denturist. However, in most cases, it’s recommended that you come in to see the denturist so that they can take a thorough look at you and your denture to ensure that it’s functioning correctly and that you are satisfied with the repair.

For complex repairs or repairs that require an impression, you will be booked in to see our denturist, who will take new molds of your mouth, and again at insertion, to assess the repair.
